Are slots with fixed bonuses better?

So I mean the bonuses pay out only a few different amounts every time e.g 2x, 5x, 10x, 50x, 75x as opposed to the slots that give you free spins and multiply your win x3 or whatever. I started out on the fixed bonuses (Big Top Tombola was a favourite) and then for some reason I switched to the ones that give you free spins like Shaman's dream. I've been very very disappointed recently with these type of slots though. For one they used to bonus A LOT ( think that's why I stuck with SD for so long) but now they're fairly scarce and secondly the payouts are 99/100 rubbish.

I switched back to Big Top and found I did much better as it often pays out 50x and if you're lucky 75x and the bonuses seemed pretty frequent. The ones with free spins rarely hit 50x. It feels like they take the piss because they know they can pay out nothing and just say "well we gave you 15 free spins not our fault if no wins landed" (I know it doesn't work like that but still) whereas the fixed slots HAVE to pay out something and you'd get suspicious if it was only ever the 2x. I also find the base game to be better.

Just wondering what everyone here thought? Does anyone have much luck with the free spins ones?

Hate them. You may as well play scratchcards than slots for fixed bonus results chosen off of a menu of prizes. The unknown is the attraction: you can win big, sometimes huge bonus returns and you have all the fun of cursing and raging about the game if it's a sh!tter of a return.

Sounds like you are a 'safe investor' who likes low-risks i.e. low-variance. I like the gamble either destruction and quickly, or a big win to gloat about.

@dunover interesting! It's a bit of both really but I've definitely blown plenty on high variance slots more times than I care to remember. I'm just sick of them almost never delivering these days. I guess now I'm trying to cut back a bit and get me a bonus round and then run with a bit of profit. Things that used to bonus all the time (9 pots of gold, winnings of oz and the one I already mentioned) now seem to be as hard to trigger as DOA2. Big Top Tombola still seems to bonus pretty well, though I'm yet to stake big on it as I usually save the big £1s for slingo (which is also a disappointment right now) I swear the same thing happened last xmas!
