August the month of casinos closing?

I've noticed a few DAMA NV casinos closing lately, along with Dunder. All in August.

Anyone else noticing the uptick? Wonder what the reason is.
The market is highly saturated that's why. There are too many casinos, and too many dumb ass operators.

A lot of them close because they have NO clue about how to run an operation or retain clients. They pay stupendous amounts to market their brand through advertising and affiliate recruitment. Once they've attained the clients they desire, there is no genuine focus on rewarding their players, to keep them playing.

They would rather save $10 in bonus cost than comp a player that has lost $1k. The player then moves on and closes their account. Rinse and repeat this with several players and you will start to see your income rapidly decline.

Once earnings start declining, they start tinkering with their partners earnings (affiliates), retroactively adding clauses that allow them to steal from the partners they once promised lifetime earnings to.

Partners then start to ditch them in droves and remove any mention of their name from their websites. With income and the acquisition of new depositing players decimated, the casino moves to replace their slots with lower RTP versions in the hope of generating more income.

They also slash their loyalty programs, add 3 X wagering to cash deposits and cap their bonuses with maximum win amounts. Lastly, they increase withdrawal times in the hope that players reverse their withdrawals.

It's now a sick cycle in which players are leaving and partners are no longer marketing them. The casino will not recover and opts to close their affiliate program.

They start a last ditch attempt to regain players by sending out comps and free spins to lost players. These comps are just a waste of time to players as most of them carry a $50 max win with 30x wagering.

Soon enough, nothing is as it was and they decide to permanently close shop.

A month or two down the line, they reappear under a different name. They hope to do it better, but they never will learn.

One of the biggest issues online is that many of the guys running online casinos are not actual players themselves.

If you are not a player, you will never understand how players think and what drives them to keep playing at a particular brand. Players feel offended when they are not looked after. The market is flooded with other brands who will happily take your players.

Great post, particularly this, although maybe not offended, rather "let down" depending on the particular players having realistic expectations depending on their deposit/wager style(s) and frequencies.

Jan from L&L is a player from what we see in the screenshots section and is a prime example of how to retain players with regular (sensible) bonus offerings, including no deposit stuff and direct complimentary bonuses with lower wagering for the CM user/ players who use his sites.

Spot on mate. I meant to tag @L&L-Jan. As he is exactly that - the perfect example.

In all honesty, if Jan were to leave ABC, I would stop playing there. He is just that good.

White-label casinos come and go by the dozens every year — and that’s perfectly normal. The barrier to success in this industry is much higher than most people realize when they buy an off-the-shelf solution.

Great observations in this thread.
It really does feel like August is becoming the month of reckoning for many smaller or poorly managed brands. The market is brutally competitive now, and if a casino doesn’t offer fair terms, responsive support, and real value to both players and affiliates — it's only a matter of time.

I’ve also noticed that players today are much more informed, especially about things like RTP, bonus traps, and withdrawal delays. That kind of awareness makes it harder for questionable operators to hide behind flashy marketing.

Curious to see who else might fold by the end of the month — or who might step up with a smarter, more transparent approach. Following this closely on *WHATEVER*.

Which is interesting, because one of the main selling points for online casinos used to be high RTP.

It used to be, but in some cases it's unavoidable.

In some jurisdictions like the UK, rules and regulations have an effect on the income of an operator.

For example, SOW checks, max bet limits, lack of auto spin and mandatory deposit limits for players. Coupled with Tax, and high risks for monstrous fines, UK operations don't really have it easy.

On the opposite end of the pond in jurisdictions like Curacao and Cost Rica, there is very lax governance on licencees. The reduction in RTP is driven by pure greed.

Very very well said. When I think about the casinos I still play at, its those I actually know about the owners, or anyway know the people who run them and its the same key ingredient. They used to be players, they know the games, they know casinos, and they understand the players mentality.

It still is. If you read casino reviews most people complain about low rtp and how they wont play in a casino that is running them.
If you read forum posts and in-game chats, the daily gamblers to me complain most when "bonuses" are ridiculously TOC'd that they might as well not. It sometimes feels like insult to get a "special promo" then find out it has ridiculous WR.
