9/11 - 24 Years Ago today

Hard to comprehend this was nearly a full quarter of a century ago. Remember this clearly like it was yesterday. Everyone in the offices, the call centre, telephone betting, customer services, were glued to the coverage on the tv sets we had dotted around the offices at Ladbrokes.

Saw first hand in real time, the second plane hitting the South Tower of the World Trade Center. Having read on the BBC website the reports beforehand that a plane had hit the North Tower.

This event where thousands of innocent people lost their lives, changed the world immeasurably. Those that lost their lives on that day and their loved ones that grieve them are in my thoughts today :-(

I had literally just signed on the dotted line at my local AFCO when this happened. As I was leaving with my dad (needed him there to counter sign) I was actually asked if I still wanted to apply as due to this, it was literally 100% gauranteed that I would end up doing an operational tour straight after phase 1/phase 2 training.

My dad just looked at the sergeant behind the desk and said "better than him hanging around the streets of liverpool" and took me for a MacDonalds before heading home. Always stuck with me that.
