Chrome and firefox no longer allow new opened windows to continue until focused?!

So I noticed for about the last 2 weeks that something has seriously changed....... When I open multiple tabs and move them to new windows for example and have 2 slots playing in each window, in the past it would let me play them while that window was not in focus or minimized it would still continue autoplay in the background..

But now it will not let me do this what so ever. When I move a new tab to a new window it completely pauses it and does not continue until it is focused........

So for example doing the battle nights at Videoslots casino are now more painful.

I also noticed it does it on YouTube videos too. If I open multiple tabs and put each tab in a new window each with its own video playing, it pauses them all until I go back to them......?

Is anyone else having this same issue now?

It is really really frustrating, it appears gone are the days of multi tasking and watching and playing various slots at the same time.........

Thanks in advance.....

Yup new update with chrome, its horrible, if you make the tabs just smaller than full screen then it works like before but if you are on a full screen tab the one behind it wont work at all

I'm in firefox and it lets me use multiple windows and did on Monday's battles.

To test, I currently have 2 songs in 2 different tabs on youtube and both songs are playing as I'm posting here.

Ok at least I know I am not alone then. I had a feeling it might have been an update...... But resizing the windows does not help at all really. I really got no idea why they even did this update then. It has to be one of the most stupidest things to add in an update!

I tested it in firefox and it is the same as in chrome for me.........

On Chrome sound will keep on going but video or anything else will stop so the video will be frozen or a slot will stop playing...

This has been a bug, or feature (?), in an earlier version of Chrome too. I don't like Firefox, it does something funny with my internet connection for some reason I can't figure out.

weird
just tried again, and still both songs play; and thats whether i have both songs same window, 2 tabs, or 2 different windows..still works

Hang on a minute. I just clicked about in chrome and it said restart to complete a new update. Version 86.0.4240.111 - the version I had before the update was Version 86.0.4240.75

I now just tested it on YouTube again and now it lets me open Multiple videos playing at the same time in tabs or windows again? Maybe they have now fixed it again? And it was just a bug?

Firefox though is still the same @dionysus.

I will test it on slots when I have the money to play 2 at the same time and see if it is now fixed or not.......

I will miss the Thursday battle night too. But I saw the slot choice anyway and they are bad picks lol....... So I am not missing much...

I have the same problem with Chrome, slots stop playing and sound turns back on even when I have manually muted it when the window gets focus. I'm on 86.0.4240.111 as well but I still have the problem.

My workaround is to have every window be visible on my monitor, even if it's just a tiny sliver they keep running. I work on a 34" ultrawide so it's not really a problem, only annoyance is that I can't snap windows to a certain position anymore, they all have to overlap and still be visible, whatever window I click.

Hopefully this gets sorted or somebody figures out what has changed.

Anyone else having problems with slow graphics with Chrome on pc ?,Mecca and Grosvenor are almost
unplayable now due to slow game loading stuttering reels, its painful.
Using opera now which works fine, but prefer to use Chrome.Spent hours trying to bottom the problem
but it sounds like its down to an update.Dont think you can load previous versions of chrome without
a lot of messing about, i was hoping to run a pre update one to check it out out

yep same here doing my head in chrome and edge thought id try on my phone similar issues on chrome glad ive seen this thread thought it was strange

Yep the issue is not fixed. So it appears I am not alone then.....

I suppose I will have to use Edge for the battle nights and battle weekends at VS then....

I hope it gets fixed soon, it is the most irritating thing ever implemented in chrome!

Found the fix for this:

Open Chrome and type in the address bar chrome://flags/ then go to or search for " Calculate window occlusion on Windows " and disable it.

enjoy.

OMG, thanks soo much for this fix...... I wonder what else that setting does though. I hope it does not affect or cause other issues to arise down the line lol. But thanks a lot :)

I have a feeling that google will delete this flag soon so we can not disable it :( They do this all the time....... at least the battle weekend next week will be much more bearable now :)

Ok yeah, I have 32gb of ram so I do not have an issue with multiple windows and tabs being open. I tested it many times and I can have about 20 windows open or more all with various videos/slots/sites in without any issues :)

But this fix is a god send :)

So it seems Chrome are back at it and have removed this flag and rebroken the browser, the flag is still there only it is hidden and will be apparently deleted soon (I guess they only have single core CPUs at the largest tech company on the planet??)

Anyhow the fix still works (for now) using the same method only you need to re-enable the flag beforehand with this command:

first enter chrome://flags/ into the address bar search for temporary-unexpire-flags-m96 and enable it
then restart as prompted and then you can do the rest below:

Cheers.
Was getting a bit annoyed at the same thing happening again, and i couldnt find the option to turn it off again, when searching the flags nothing would show up when searching for 'occlusion'.

The feature will be completely removed soon maybe even on the next chrome update, got to be the stupidest thing ever, they do it to 'free up resources' sure that would make sense in 2001 when we used single core cpus and had 512mb of ram, but now we have what 4/8/16/32 cores and Gb's of unused ram, also edge uses chromium now so it suffers with the same problem and of course firefox plan to do the same as well soon. (WHY?)

for added measure I have disabled chrome updates as well untill I can test the latest update on a burner laptop. (not advised if you use chrome as your day to day browser)

Though Firefox was always the better of the two overall, it is heartening to see these decrepit, disease- ridden browsers show how inept they are.

Much like most, I'd default on Chrome under some placebo notion that they ran technically- taxing things 'better', turns out they don't.

Probably one of the rare few browsers capable of hard- crashing one's system and corrupting itself to the point of being irreparable. So have fun with Chrome peeps, I'm sure many more 'adventures' await

Got my second one, what do i do now again?

Now do a google search for Windows Cleaner. Pay a one-off fee for a program of ladder service that bridges your baseline to your windows and cleans them inside and out. Should be able to have clear uninterrupted viewing thereafter.

No need to thank.

Ok, the other fix was just a practice fix.
This fix works.

Open notepad and add the bold text, save it as a .reg file instead of .txt
After that you just run the file and there you go.
Windows in the background will now keep running without freezing up.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google\Chrome]
"NativeWindowOcclusionEnabled"=dword:00000000
"WindowOcclusionEnabled"=dword:00000000
