General Election 2019 thread

I hope Farage and Johnson agree for only Brexit party to contest safe Labour leave seats and not Tory marginals, or Labour marginals. Otherwise the pro-Brexit parties could be hugely ahead on overall votes and have not enough seats in Parliament.

This could lead to the nightmare scenario of NOT getting the ABC outcome most of us want (Anybody But Corbyn).

We could end up with the horror of a Lib-Lab or even worse a Lab-SNP coalition, possibly even all three of them together, resulting in the inevitable ruination of the UK and breakdown of society as a resentful majority kick-off.

This sounds just a little overexaggerated

Oh, I'm sure the Great British Public, in their wisdom, will, once again, cheerfully vote in a hung parliament.

..and then moan like stink for five years about politicians not getting things sorted.

I had the misfortune of finding out this was confirmed, just an hour ago while getting a Chinese.

Seriously, I thought he was taking the piss and looking for trouble until I cottoned on to what he was on about.

"hwoaar, you look forward to you beeg erecshun at Chrissmas?"

Straight up.

Decent campaign launch video from Labour. Neither me or Mrs Chopley can vote in the election, although Mrs Chopley is a fully paid up card-carrying member of the Labour Party regardless.

Yeah lets just bypass the FACT that he could not make Brexit happen because Labour blocked everything, but hey the fake reality may be easier eh? like the one where the biggest referendum result ever with "LEAVE" winning never happened? best out of 3...5...10...100?

As discussed previously, ad nauseam at this point, it's not the job of MPs to 'do what you tell them to', it's to do what they think is best for their constituents and their country.

The reason Brexit hasn't happened yet is literally any form of it from a Soft Deal to a Hard Deal to a No Deal is demonstrably worse than the 'Deal' we already have as an EU member.

MPs are doing their job, and this Parliament has actually done very well in preventing an act of national self-harm and immolation, and hopefully is leading us into saner waters.

There really is no compromise when it comes to Mr & Mrs Chopley it is their way or nothing, imagine trying to compromise a deal with Chopley as negotiator.

Let's spell it out one more time for Chopley an MP is voted in by the constituents if an MP does not do what a constituency tells them then they get voted out, therefore an MP is more than obliged to listen to their voters.

Unfortunately for me my MP was too busy being deputy speaker last night to bother about Brexit I would hope the people of Doncaster Central give Dame Rosie a shock in December but alas she is safe if she wasn't old Nigel Farage would be standing in Doncaster Central.

As someone who voted LEAVE and would do so again, I will be voting Labour even if it means potentially not leaving the EU,
As lets not forget this is a GE there is way more important things than the EU, The NHS is on its knees crime is up police officers are down, Universal credits crippling family's who are hard working, for example my mom found a job works 16 hours a week and she is now £30 WORSE off a week than she was signing on with only £45 to her name after all the deductions made by UC, Before UC she would of been around £30 a week BETTER of, Atleast 500k + people are using food banks compared to around 50k in 2010, thosuands of people have died due to cuts in local services, I can go on and on. But unfortunately I only see a a conservative majority because people will be voting on BREXIT and NOT on what truly matters.

Why do people keep saying NHS is on it's knees I have worked in NHS for last 5 years and moving to a new job in NHS in December, it has it's problems like most areas but "on it's knees" no no no.

We are talking about life and death mate not someone who has to do more admin work in an office cause there understaffed, The conservatives do not give 2 shits about the NHS, The A and E waiting times are the worse on records, The amount of patients waiting on trolleys is the worse its ever been all down to funding and it being understaffed, The NHS are amazing and if it wasn't down to the amazing doctors nurses everyone who is part of the nhs working extra long shifts doing MORE than they should be doing the NHS would not being surviving.

This in a nutshell <3

I’ll be voting Labour. The uk doesn’t need any more of the Tory scum they have ruined this country baffles me and makes me want to pull my hair out that the majority can’t see what they have done the country’s on its arse. Feel free to slate Corbyn I know he doesn’t represent the old labour but he and his policies are a damn sight more optimistic than those evil Tories.

I don't want to see the horrible Labour govt I had to sit and work through from 1997 to 2010 nothing would make me vote for Labour knowing what I have seen.

You really do believe what the media tell you the NHS is not on its knees the NHS has a problem with people who want to see someone when they had a cough for 2 days or because the antibiotics haven't worked in one day try working in it then you would know.

The NHS would work fine if the worried well just let their cough or cold get out of their system instead of going to a&e or a gp after a day of it.

I am working in a new department for severley mental impaired people which is brand new the NHS is trying to help people but media hysteria does not show these things.

Labour destroyed our economy the nhs and everything else between 1997 and 2010, illegal wars add into the mix and the nightmare of Tony Blair and Brown who sold all our gold for nothing. Aswell as having no plan for immigration at all, in fact Abbott who would be in charge! talks about increasing it, our country is not sustainable with the population now, let alone increase!!! they are insane.

Lowest unemployment in 40 years, economy doing great, and the NHS is fine...

My niece has Cystic Fybrosis and the conservatives just got a deal for Orkambi, fantastic!

I worked in civil service for 15 years under Blair, Brown & Cameron and Brown was just a nutcase to be frank we should all be grateful he never got back in.

I remember in 2006 they street I lived in was full of anti social behaviour and the communtiy police officers used to bypass our street to avoid the trouble.

I really don't want to see those days back again Labour introduced food banks in 2004 to the UK they brought in the ridiculous tax credits system which was a nightmare and of course spent money they didn't have.

Are you for real Metal health services across the country have been CUT by disgusting amounts my friend tried to take her own life by hanging her self she now is better but a few month ago she felt like she was gonna hurt her self again and was struggling and needed to talk to a therapist the doctors told her theres a 6 week wait unless she went private due to metal health services being cut. One new service does NOT make up for the disgusting cuts they have made.

When I was ill in 2007 there was no mental health service for over a year I had to pay £50 a session now there is talking shop, crisis teams, a range of mental health telephone and face to face services IAPT which I trialled when it started so please don't tell me there are cuts because mental health services are increasing all the time.

In December 2010 when I was severly depressed I rang loads if helplines on a Saturday morning all of them closed I was told the don't open until the evenings now you have crisis teams 24 hours a day it has improved greatly in the last few years but not enough one of our patients has tried to kill himself three times this year and he was crying at bus stop to me on Friday so there is still room for improved

Crisis teams send you home 9/10 as there’s no beds any were sorry not being rude but I can’t believe how deluded you are to not see and know that mental health services have been slashed to the bone

I know they haven't but you won't believe me and I have been on both sides of the fence of mental health but have it your way, how can hardly any in 2007 to having access 24 hours a day be slashed. I will give Gordon Brown some credit for introducing IAPT it was probably one of the decent things he did it's a pity he did it to get people off benefits as he realised mental health was taking up a lot of money from the govt coffers.

It might depend on the NHS trust, but I can tell you mental health funding in Sunderland is lower now than it has been for a long time, this is based on experience and Dr's telling me. A ward close to me for mental health patients 5 years ago had 9 Doctors working full time on it, there are now 3, same number of beds, just as one example.

A friend of mine has severe bi-polar, has been in and out of residential care for about 30 years, not loads, but 2-4 weeks every 6 months or so. Last Monday he rang the crisis team telling them he was really down at the moment and was getting visions of hurting people and himself. The CPN stopped him after 8 minutes, told him he needed to see them asap, and was going to speak to his manager to make an urgent appointment, and would ring him back within the hour. He's still waiting. He's rang back twice, and both times been told they will ring him back 'that afternoon'. I rang and was told 'we are trying to fit him in, but we are short of CPN's at the moment' I asked why, and was told they are down to half the number they had 5 years ago because of funding cuts, so theres a massive delay in all services. This is someone with a history that is bad enough for the crisis team not to go to his house, and will only seem him as a team of 3 in his doctors surgery.

If you self refer for low level CBT, the current wait is 6-9 months. If you get referred to second level, the wait is usually 18-24 months.

I know a 17 year old girl who has self harmed for about 3 years. She has attempted to take her life 4 times, serious attempts not attention seeking ones. She is currently getting quite a high level CBT, but has been told when she is 18 she will transfer to adult services, and there will probably be a 12-18 month gap between her last youth session and first adult one, as the budget cuts have created a massive backlog. Not that it matters, as they also told her if she continues CBT after 18, it will be on her record and she will never be able to work with children, so straight away, she said she isn't going. Well done mental health team.

Johnson really bad at PMQs this afternoon, Corbyn looking pretty good.

Corbyn is a born campaigner, it's what he does best, and it looks like Labour are going to focus their attacks on where the Tories are weakest. For example, the line that the Tories will sell out the NHS to Trump's America will connect IMO. (Mostly because it's true.)

Johnson has got away with his shtick for so many years because he's never really been properly held to account, but he won't be able to hide in a general election campaign.

He's notoriously lazy, he lies as easily as he breathes, and when pinned down on actual questions he's greasy and evasive, and then gets visibly annoyed. There's a reason he was kept under lock and key during the leadership election campaign.

I'm not making any predictions this early on, but it'd be a bold person who says this election will be a slam dunk for the Tories.

You do realise that Labour have privatised just as much of the NHS as the Tories, right? The whole 'Labour want to save the NHS, the Tories want to destroy it' ideology is a complete myth which is peddled by those on the left.

The NHS is a bottomless money pit, it is NOT that its underfunded, more that the money that is pumped into it is wasted, there is no standardisation of procurement and there is a layer of pen pushing leeches taking a 6 figure salary.

If you want Brexit to happen, you have to vote Conservative.

If you want Brexit to happen, you have to vote Conservative.

Nonsense, Labour have said they'll put it out to a second referendum. If Leave wins again then, boom, you've got Brexit!

Why the need for a second referendum after we already had a 'once in a generation' vote? A vote that hasn't even been implemented. 3.5 years sure is a short generation!

Well we had a general election just 2.5 years ago and we're having another one of those already, so, y'know.....

Anyway, the people now have a choice, they can put the Tories in and get a shitty, economically ruinous hard Brexit, or they can put Labour (or some sort of Lab/Lib/SNP coalition) in, and choose what sort of Brexit (or not) they want via a referendum.

But a general election is never touted as a 'once in a generation vote' A general election was needed as parliament is in paralysis.

If only we'd known that by once in a generation they really meant the generation of a pet hamster

Wise commentators were noting before the referendum was even held that there would be no such thing as a quick, easy, or even desirable Brexit. (As we've subsequently found out, of course....)

Cameron was an arsehole for even calling it in the first place, something he only did as a short-term measure to keep the UKIP dogs at bay, and we've been living with the consequences ever since.

Johnson's deal is garbage, everyone knows that, and the truth is, that's what Brexit actually looks like. Crap, innit?

The Tories aren't exactly playing a blinder with their Twitter slogan:

#BritainDeservesBetter

Have they forgotten they've been in government for the last nine years?

Nothing wrong with this country apart from Labour etc blocking a democratic vote result, if its that bad for 9 years go to Zimbabwe where the politics you support is popular....

Labour in meltdown already lol

Labour MPs 'don't want to back Jeremy Corbyn as PM' as former leadership hopeful Owen Smith QUITS and more than 100 of his own troops REFUSE to get behind snap election
  • Labour leader was effectively given no choice but to cave in and back PM's bill
  • But faced huge rebellion from own MPs with more than 100 refusing to back him
  • Some 11 Labour MPs, including Margaret Beckett, voted against an election

I see you are all still looking "blindly" for that elusive EXIT door! Keep searching, you might find it after another 10 elections and 20 extensions, somwehere in the year 2055! View attachment 116540
I appreciate you trying to cheer us up Harry but it's not happening that soon
