His finest moment as a snooker pro was when he won the UK Championship in 1979.
And the victorious moment was (in)famously missed because the BBC cameramen went on strike before the final frame!
He beat Terry Griffiths, who was the defending World Champion, 14-13.

Real shame this. Used to love watching big break when I was younger on a Saturday night with my dad. Always the same routine - chippy tea, big break and noel's house party.

No chance of sitting in a room playing on a games console, it was father and son time infront of the TV. If the electric went out it wasn't an issue - dad would just pull the cash box off the bottom of the meter and feed a few 50ps through it hahahaha

Saw this reported yesterday morning. Grew up in the late 70's and early to mid 80's when snooker was in its pomp. RIP John Virgo.
