UEFA Euro 2024: Expectations?

uefa-euro-germany-football-cup-offcial-logo-vector-format.webp

This summer, football fans won’t be resting. We have a summer ahead of us in front of the TV, although the luckiest ones will experience it live. Euro 2024 is about to start, and will it be the last competition where we see CR7? Other great figures like Modric and Lewandowski also seem to be nearing the end of their careers with their national teams.

According to the betting houses I've consulted, the favorite is England, followed by France and, as the host, Germany. Teams like Portugal and Spain are ranked a step below. I hope my national team finishes in the top three. We have great promises like Yamal, Pedri (Golden Boy 2021), and Rodrigo, a midfielder I really admire. It’s a fairly young team but with players who have a lot of experience in international competitions.

How do you see this European Championship? What are your expectations? I hope to spend a few weeks watching quality football, with the passion that always comes with this sport, despite the millions of euros that are turning a great sport into a mere spectacle full of millionaires.

I've been betting on Belgium to win for the last 3-4 tournaments and though they've only made one semi final over these years, I will do so again even if they've arguably had their best chances to lift it by now.

Lukaku for leading goal scorer feels far more realistic though. At odds in the 15 region, it's actually a no brainer. Belgium's got some potentially high scoring matches coming in the group stages and is also highly likely to advance. Lukaku is currently in his prime, or certainly not far from it, and with the extremely precise services of De Bruyne and Trossard will get his share of opportunities served on a silver platter.

It usually takes about 5 goals to become top scorer and I think he'll get those before long. Another option, worth considering for high stakes, would be Lukaku Over 3.5 goals.

I'm English so I have no expectations.

Think Southgate has the nous to win a tournament? Think again.

Give him a mythical team with Best, Charlton, Cruyff, Pele, Maradona, Messi, Beckenbauer, Ronaldo, Moore etc. in and he'd still lose it.

Hmmm....the final is on Bastille Day.

I think France beat England in the semis. England will probably score in that game, but this has ALWAYS been their problem. They always seem to score ONLY ONCE.
Good enough to score first in the really big games, but not good enough to keep a clean sheet.
One goal is never going to be enough against one of the top teams, because goals can and will be had against that England defence.
England might get away with winning against the weaker teams 3-2 or 4-2, but against France? No way.

The other semi is harder to call. Germany could meet Spain in the QF with the winner to likely face one out of Portugal, Croatia and Netherlands.

Croatia for me is the wildcard here. In a Group of death with Spain and Italy, Modric's last hurrah, known to punch above their weight in tournaments and very capable of springing a shock result.

Germany also tend to do well when hosting a WC or Euros. Won in' 74, lost in '88 SF to eventual winners Netherlands and '06 SF to eventual winners Italy, with both games seeing very late goals to decide them.
Home field advantage might help get them far once again.

France look like a clear favourite, but if they slip up (and they can - see Portugal in '16 final and Switzerland in '21), then it could be won by any one out of 7 or 8 teams, namely Spain, Portugal, Italy, Croatia, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium and England.

But those last three are serial chokers/under-achievers, while Croatia are over-achievers, but still the proverbial "nearly men".

The only thing I can be sure of is that the Germans know how to put on a slickly organised and good football tournament, so I am looking forward to it.

One thing is for sure... Ladbrokes are counting the mugs pouring in for this "promotion"... 20/1 on a randomly assigned winner anyone?

The rules - assuming you can find them (one link to the rules ironically goes to BeGambleAware) - mention that all selections have an equal probability.

So we have:
  • The five favourites - 4.5 to 8.0 (at Ladbrokes' naturally piss-poor prices)
  • The three break evens - 17.0 to 19.0
  • The sixteen outsiders - 34.0 to 501.0
So their existing market is a rather poor 116% book - this doesn't seem to be much better at 114% (or 24 divided by 21).

And naturally pity the poor mug that bets £20 and gets Georgia (950.0+) at 20/1...

Lol, Could be worse and end up with England I suppose :p

Some disagreement on the books and exchanges this evening - WH boosting England again to 5.5, Smarkets now 5.3 (with France favourite at 5.2) while Betfair and Matchbook at 5.1 (France 5.3).

So a plausible chance that England aren't favourites this time tomorrow... which would be something they've lost before the tournament even starts :cheerleader:

I’ve gone in on France.

I backed Southampton (play offs) and England double a while back. But England have drifted from 3/1 to 9/2 since.

I also did Portugal each way couple of months ago at a decent price. They look strong in most areas and are value.

Saviour on Holland each way after I got wasted with a Dutch fan who told me they were WAY overpriced after about ten pints and several gins!!

Either way I can’t fucking wait.

Ascot as well next week so a welcome break from getting bent over and fucked up the arse from every slot I load up. It’s just fucking relentless playing these days. Can’t wait for my money to entertain me more than 5 mins.

And one final note….

BTG can fuck off for good now. You are on the ban list for good. Rediculous feature costs producing fuck all as always. Rather throw a bag at Scotland to win the euros than ever play your shite again.

Scotland vs Germany = me vs a Hacksaw slot. A total mismatch.
My god they were shite. Germany were not as good as people think, they were made to look good. Even England could've scored 2 or 3 against Scotland.

What a nice start to the tournament! Total mismatch indeed, but great entertainment value! And how about Toni Kroos..?

Got like 100 different betting accounts but only one bothered to offer me a freebie, I happily obliged:

(Actually wanted to go for over 5.5 but it was max odds 5.0 for the freebet.)

Scotland got the tournament off to a really bad start, they weren't even competitive. I sense Clarke was trying to be too clever, thinking he could set up defensive and aim for a low scoring affair, they were getting pulled all over the place.

Maybe my eyesight is going but I wasn't certain the penalty and sending off was as clear as the tv commentators thought.

Just seen the news RIP Kevin Campbell.

I see Sturgeon has found a use for her campervan - apparently it's on its way down the autobahn to evacuate the Scotland football squad and bring them home safely.

Turns out wee Jimmy's purchase was made with incredible foresight....:laugh::laugh:

Penalty and sending off not clear?? Is that a joke??

Yeah sad about Kevin Campbell, he was decent on sky sports.

It's what we call "the African tackle"
He charged with 2 feet and almost broke Gundogan's ankle in the process. Even if there was no harm done that was a straight red.

I hope England win.

But what I'm expecting is for them to prance around like a bunch of fairies, passing the ball towards their own goal 10 x more than going forward until the other team scores 2 goals and it's too late to throw on some decent subs and try to turn it around in the last 5 minutes... just like all previous tournaments!

And where's our best midfielder? Oh yes, sitting on his arse in England & watching it on the telly

I can hardly wait.
Oh just a minute... yes I can ?

KK

I had a bet on Italy to win, a few other stats , corners , shots etc I managed every single one, except I needed one more Italy goal, and they went from what, 20 minutes to the end without another goal, because they were more interested in tapping the ball around and wasting time.

As for England. I hope we do well and go far, but part of me also isn't bothered if they don't as it'll end all the usual nonsense about England winning etc from the media :D

Quite a weird thing..., it's London, and its East London, and it's Aspers Casino - a place where usually people from Essex come for drinks and play. But I only see a few people that look like British and support England's football team, most are just random people that think the television shows a football game today, lol.

A real life image here, as a contribution to Casinomeister's EURO UEFA football 2024 thred :):

... I'm not a burger man and last had something from McDonald's/KFC around 3-4 years ago, but Aspers has prepared some eadable stuff for Euro footbal fans and sales beer for the price of Wethspoons. So it's worth a try.

It's boiled chicken ?, then fried up and chucked between two bits of bread along with bacon. Lovely!

Beer at the moment is still served in the glass pints, and then later they use plastic ones only because of too many nutters in this area as they often smash each other heads... Security just said that these 'actions' usually start after 23.00, lol, let's see.

P.S England looks strong agains Serbia by the way, maybe it's because some of the players are from European football clubs Real, Bayern now?

Here are what the different sources across the web say right now:

1. **Squawka**: England is considered the stronger team despite some recent struggles in their preparations. The quality of players like Harry Kane, Phil Foden, and Jude Bellingham is expected to be too much for Serbia to handle.

2. **Paddy Power**: England is the favorite to win the competition and is expected to start their campaign with a win against Serbia. The predicted score is 2-1 in favor of England.

3. **The Analyst**: England has a strong historical record against Serbia/Yugoslavia, being unbeaten in their last six matches. This historical dominance adds to their favorability.

4. **The New York Times**: A supercomputer predicts that England will win 61% of the time, compared to 17% for Serbia and 22% for a draw.

5. **Football.London**: England is the clear favorite with odds of 1/2, while Serbia is a longshot at 7/1. The prediction is that England will win, possibly with a scoreline of 2-1.

6. **CBS Sports**: England is favored with odds of -230, while Serbia is at +650. The expert analysis suggests that England's strong squad and recent form make them the likely winners.

7. **Sporting News**: The prediction is that England will win 2-1, with both teams expected to score.

Yeah, the burger was good, it's something that you would have once again when visiting the same place. It definitively fed me till the noon tomorrow lol.
Unless you bring it up again, then you'll be hungry before noon tomorrow.

Saw the highlights of the England game on ITV's YT channel (all three minutes and three seconds of it!)

One comment in particular made me chuckle...

If Southgate discovered a small fire in his kitchen, he’d sit with his hands in his pockets, staring blankly at it and thinking ‘let’s see how this pans out for another half hour before I do anything’

Then he’d switch the kettle and toaster around and hope for the best
