Need your input: What happens when you win a jackpot at an online casino?

I need some input here!

Over the years we have had members of the forum tell us that they have won a decent sized jackpot and I am sure that @maxd and @The Dude have even seen threads where the maximum progressive has been hit on one of the big ones, like Mega Moolah and some of the old NetEnt Mega Fortune jackpots.

However, I don't recall anyone actually explaining what happens when you win a jackpot, as in the next steps. I, myself have never really played enough jackpot slots to have a chance of winning one. Occasionally I would throw some money at some of the Mega Moolah progressives when they got super-big, but was never lucky enough to trigger the jackpot.

So, if you have been fortunate enough to hit a good size jackpot, say $50,000 or above. What happens?

1. Do the animations live up to the win?
2. Are you made to wait to speak to a member of their team?
3. Is more verification and checks required?
4. Are you encorouged/or forced to do publicity?
5. Does the gambling site try to wriggle out of paying?
6. Do you get a lump sum, or do they try and pay you in installments?

We congratulate the player :)

Way way back when I worked at Ladbrokes. A player on the Ladbrokes Casino won in excess of £800,000, which at the time was one of the highest amounts won. Certainly the largest payout in the short history of Ladbrokes Casino at that point. It was around 2001 or early 2002.

Not only did we pay him super quick. The marketing team in London got it featured in all the red top newspapers. We also flew him and his wife out to Gibraltar, put him in the Rock Hotel ( Gibraltar's top hotel ) and showed him around our office setup in Europort.

Think with jackpot wins is that technically it costs the casino no money. Pots are already paid by players wagers. So those big progressive ones get paid accordingly. It also states in the contract of the game provider.

I believe once a wowpot was reset as the canadian winners couldn't provide KYC.

Personally I have let net ent reset a Divine fortune jackpot on our end. The customer breached terms and therefore had to void the win.

But besides that, happy to pay and congratulate the player yes.

I'm not responsible for that end of the deal unfortunately but last year was a really big one someone hit 40m and actually the provider verification was smooth, the player themself took a long time trying to work out how to get paid :) He chose to remain anonymous... only the top guys took him to Newcastle for a game after that.

90% of Jackpots are pooled across operators whereby a percentage of each wager is added to the pot. The other 10% is not a shared pool, but a pool built up by the casino's players wagering on the game (Divine Fortune is 1 such game).

The game provider is responsible for administering the pool. When a win occurs, it is verified by the provider and the casino does KYC (if applicable). Provider then releases the funds to the operator, who in turn, pays the player, or, to prevent the operator running off with the funds, the provider can elect to pay the player directly.

There have been stories where the operator decided to keep the funds for themselves or forced players to settle for lesser amounts as shared here on Casinomeister 16 years ago. Nightmare situation for the winner.

Hi. In reality, hitting a progressive jackpot isn’t much different from hitting any other big win. I’ve won progressives over 50K multiple times — mostly on Divine Fortune, sometimes on Mega Joker and various Red Tiger jackpots.

1. The animation always matches the win.
You collect the 15 coins and see the full jackpot animation corresponding to the exact amount won.
In Red Tiger games the jackpot is triggered by a jackpot wheel, while in Mega Joker it’s awarded through a random spin.

2. You don’t need to talk to anyone.

3. Verification depends on the operator and your previous checks.
Sometimes they ask for documents again, sometimes not at all.

4. I only had one “interview” — and it was text-based.
It was on 888, and the win was around 20K from their exclusive jackpot. They later posted a short note on their blog: just my first initial, no details. They didn’t pressure me — and no one else ever asked anything, even though I’ve hit 200K+ jackpots on multiple sites more than once.

5. Payout rules vary by casino.
Since I didn’t filter casinos back then, I encountered all kinds of nonsense. Many places just pay strictly according to their withdrawal limits.
And yes — sometimes they try to push you to play more “to increase limits” or offer random VIP perks to get you to wager.

6. Withdrawals usually come in parts, according to limits.

I’m curious what happens in situations like this. Whose side do they analyze the win from, and what exactly has to be violated for a payout to be voided?

And by the way, not everyone realizes that a player’s win costs the casino nothing — including some casinos themselves.

I’d be happy to hear the details — or maybe you have a link handy?

Thanks. Are there any examples of casinos that don’t do this?
Or maybe there’s a way to force them to pay in full — for example, those licensed in Malta or Curaçao.
I’ve only ever seen differences in withdrawal limits, but I’ve never seen anyone pay out the entire amount at once.
Though maybe I just haven’t won at the “best” casinos to see it happen.
