For any of you that have looked at a news site this morning, then you would be aware about the furore concerning Meta's WhatsApp messaging service and the fact it now has an 'optional' AI tool. Optional as in, once you agree to use it, there is no going back.

So for a messaging app that prides itself on being encrypted, it is on the other-hand foisting onto unsuspecting innocent users a tool that will be sending user data to the cloud that its AI app uses.

Quite!

I believe you are referring to this thing that has just turned up in everyone's Whatsapp. Highly irritating and completely unnecessary. If you need AI to write your messages for you then lord help you.

Also, I have noticed that Google are forcing AI on us with Google searches now, with no option to opt out of these AI snippets. The energy consumption needed to produce these snippets is believed to be significantly more than the actual search, like 10 times more!

This is my issue with AI it's being forced down our throats the Google really pisses me off when I want to find out something the first result is AI. Even samsung has forced it as well I just don't like any of it
Exactly the reason I am investigating and exploring the best performing and most cost effective Mac I can get to be able to run decent size LLM's locally as per this thread AI - Casinomeister Forum

Anything you query online whether it be ChatGPT, Claude or whatever then becomes someone else's data.

Life used to be a lot easier when all we had as a search engine was good old Ask Jeeves - only problem was he didn't know very much lol

I do find it quite scary how quickly we have moved to AI tools and our reliance on technology. Be interesting to see the state of the world in the next 10 years

Christ, Ask Jeeves, you are showing your age. Next you'll be mentioning Altavista.
I had forgotten about altavista

Back in the good old days - trying to download certain videos on limewire that were less than 10mb, but took 3 hours on a 56k modem only to find out that the video wouldn't play or was a virus and then had to reformat the pc lol

All while my dad would be kicking off as he couldn;'t use the landline whilst the internet was connected
