Betfair and the US horseracing industry

This is from the Daily Racing Form today. Makes for interesting reading, especially the part in bold. I don't quite understand why anyone would want this type of wagering because there are several betting formats available to the US player that offer the same bets and payouts as the actual racetracks. But maybe so.

It's always a source of wonder to me that US legislators have been so openly inequitable when it comes to exempting online horseracing, dogracing, fantasy sports and state lotteries from the UIGEA and enforcement harassment, whilst pulling out all the stops to kill other online forms of gambling.

And don't get me started on the many other forms of gambling permitted at state level!

The US horserace companies are really climbing into the online wagering field thanks to the carve-outs - just this week another operation announced it is to launch two new websites in January.

Betfair's TVG acquisition is going to pay off bigtime for them - a shrewd move on their part.
