Pretty well the same hunting rules apply in Canada too. The government does geographical counts of all allowed game each year, and where and what is in season, to how much you are allowed. The same goes for fishing. Most is catch and release now when it comes to fishing though. Its expensive to hunt large game though. You have to factor in your license, gas to travel, flat bed trailer to transport a moose or large deers ( bucks) Your food costs. It gets up there around 3k, but if you have a typical party of 5 going, then everyone splits costs.
Another important thing i forgot to add.
I know it works a bit different depending on where in sweden you want to hunt, but in the north part of sweden where i live, its almost impossible to even get to be a part of a hunting team unless you own land in that region.
Since my family owns quite a bit of land in the territory used for hunting by the hunting team for this region, we are more or less guaranteed a spot if we want one.
But if you are an "outsider" looking to hunt here in the northern parts, you would have a hard time.
You can ofcourse buy a spot from someone on a team that owns land, but that means taking their place, and not many are willing to part with the privilege of being apart of a team.
Guess this makes it sound a bit unfair, but it also adds to the social bit, since everybody on the team has known each other a long time, and new members to the team usually come from familys that has been apart of that team for a long time.
And as you said, its not cheap to hunt, so its not like you do it to make a quick buck (pun intended).
All the people i know who hunt do it for the social bit, and because they enjoy being out and about in nature.
Since its so restrictive how many animals each team gets to shoot each year, most years you would not get to shoot anything anyways, so being a trophy hunter in these parts would quickly become boring i assume.
I sometimes join my dad on hunts, but since im not licensed to be a hunter, or to carry a rifle, im just there for the nature&hot cocoa. =)
