Hey guys.

I’m currently in Barcelona for the first non-London event. Met a chap today who was just a casino enthusiast not an industry employee.

Made me think, do any of you guys who don’t work in the industry attend such exhibitions?

I cannot ever recall meeting anyone at those conferences who wasn't working for the industry in some way, or partner of the same. For a start a mere enthusiast would have to pay hundreds for a pass if not able to apply under affiliate, casino, payments, licensing/security or developer staff etc. I think the press can get passes but usually only those working for recognized indsutry publications.

I cannot see the point of attending if you're not in the industry unless you like crowds and flashing lights. I know two people who have gone, now three if you're there.

Ask the person if they had to pay for the badge, if not what scam they pulled for a freebie lol..

Enjoy the week anyway!

I think you may be getting mixed up with the affiliate conferences Daz? ICE is free and I think always has been.

Possibly, as I always ordered and applied for both badges together so wouldn't have spotted the difference!

OK, my bad, scrub my comment in conjunction with the ICE half lol

So yes, if free, I can see the attraction for a land-based slot/casino enthusiast, not so much for onliners unless to test them in cabinets if offered there. And meet the spies from the Guardian haha

The chap was really into the land based stuff and the technology etc so yeah makes sense.

I was in Barcelona for the weekend as my partner is in the industry and is at ICE this week. We headed over early for a weekend there and I returned on Monday. I was offered to attend ICE for a day but it would have purely been to see the flashing lights (she told some of the stands look pretty good). Decided against it.

I think the only time I’d seen civilians in or around ICE was at the Meister Meetings. They knew about ICE of course but only a few had much interest in it.

I remember when Rob Davies from The Guardian was refused a Press Pass for ICE. Watching him virtually chuck out all his toys from his pram as a result made for hilarious reading :D
I remember in the early days that I started joining Bryan at ICE I stopped at the Press Room, flashed my Casinomeister badge, and asked if I could get a Press Pass like Bryan had. They told me “well, you aren’t Bryan are you?” and that ended the conversation.

When I came back empty handed Bryan listened to my story, walked over to the Press Room, and came back two minutes later with a Press Pass in my name and an invitation to some glitzy event they were coordinating for that evening. As I said, it was early days with Casinomeister but after a few things like that I was pretty convinced I was working with the right guy.
