Hi all.

As some of you know, I recently won the great competition Rizk ran on the forum. I'll be flying to Malta on Thursday this week and will meet with their managing director and their head of compliance on Friday.

This is a wonderful opportunity to learn how a great casino is being managed behind the doors. I'm personally very interested on compliance matters in general and especially issues relating to data protection and AML.

I'd like to invite fellow members here to post in this thread any questions you'd like me to ask from Rizk? I'll do my best to get those answers straight from the management.

Also, if you have any great ideas for a promotion, post it, and I'll discuss it with them!

Hey guys, just to re-iterate ternur's post above.

We will be meeting with the GiG Head of Compliance first thing on Friday morning and we can go through any questions that you wish to ask. Every wondered about why certain things happen, the regulations behind it, the thinking of a gaming company etc etc then here is the place to put any questions that you may have.

Afterwards we will go through marketing point about how we acquire players and then how do we look to retain them and also look at trying to create a promotion that we could use, so any promotion ideas that you have then put them here and we will either explain to ternur why we cant use them and hopefully come up with something that we can release!

Careful terner - once you find out that all the casinos don't work together to rig all the games against the player, you'll end up like me - being at the end of the tin-foil-hatters wrath ;)

Well, well....shall we start a long list of 1,000 questions, tin foil hat ones included? Just to make the day a very busy one for the Captain and his team. :D :D

Personally, I have one which I have been asking ever since I registered with the first online casino (Gaming Club) in 1998. We as players put our trust in the integrity of the operators and fairness of the games, which I rarely questioned but one thing is always in the back of my mind and for that I would like to see once in clear language, not programming code:

- What exactly is sent between the participating parties when I press "SPIN".
a. between me and the casino operator
b. internally at the casino operator (if anything other than player balance check)
c. between the casino operator and the gaming server
d. return to casino operator
e. return to me

I know some details thanks to trancemonkey or which are publicly known but to this day nobody gave me a complete answer.

That leads to my next question: Are there legal, regulatory etc. limits / requirements / definitions as to what can / must / should be sent in case a, b, c, d and e?

Either way, wishing you a great time!

There are no specific requirements of what can / can't be sent as far as I know, but there are certainly requirements about what can be done with the information ...

Feel free to read the remote gaming technical standards we all have to adhere too! :)

You do not have permission to view link Log in or register now.

Varies with each platform and game provider. Not sure you'll get a great level of detail on this as technical integration is closely guarded - performance of slots, IE) how quickly can you spend your money, is a KPI for developers.

You know how to choose your questions don't you! :)

@Harry_BKK will give what info i can to Ternur but as previously stated it does vary slightly but as a rule of thumb we pass as little information outside of Rizk as possible.

...but he won't be outside of Rizk for that one day, he will be the boss ;):D

Soooo exciting!! :) Have lots of great times, hope you'll have time and opportunity to also check Malta around, if you haven't been there before :) It's one of the cutest countries ever :D

I have a question of sorts in regards to compliance. Suppose someone goes into full tilt mode and starts gambling way beyond their usual pattern. Q.) How does the casino identify that? How long does it take for them to take action (if any)? What action might they take?

@trancemonkey - I think this is the 2nd thread I've read today where you, unprompted, bring up ''rigged" where it was not necessary.

With all due respect and please don't take this personal but I pestered multiple operators / game providers over the last 20 years and never received a proper answer. :D

Virtually in all contracts, where our personal information or parts of it is handled electronically or passed on to a third party, we have the legal right to know what exactly goes where and to what extend. That is except apparently in the gambling industry.

To be honest, IE and the sort, does not hold the argument. IMO, I have entered a valid contract with a casino operator to place bets via the site. The operator hands over information to the game provider, some of that being part of my personal details. It perplexes me why the gambling industry is trying to shroud itself in secrecy claiming IE etc. when a part of my personal information is sent forwards and backwards thousands of times within a normal gaming session. Just sending my country of residence is already a personal information which could be used in various ways. Not implying anything, just saying.

For years, I was told that only the pure bet request is being sent to the game provider until trancemonkey "admitted" that it is more than that. Still it did not fully answer my question, hence, I posted it once again to see whether I get this time a more complete answer. :D

I sometimes like throwing a grenade in and seeing if it explodes... it's one of my faults

I don't recall admitting that anything more than a bet request is sent. What information is sent as part of that bet request is, as far as i know, the legally required information in order to correctly a) decide the spin outcome b) update your wallet c) track any "rewards" / progression towards features and d) to fulfill the legal requirement (shown in the tech standards) to be able to show you all your bet history.

Quote post 32: Ask me anything (about slots)!

The game sends a spin request which contains information such as number of lines, coin size, total bet, etc.. The server gets this request and then sends a result back to the client for that spin, or for that part of a spin (for example, if it's going in to free games, it may only send back the initial spin and the fact the game client needs to go in to free games - then it would request another spin result for the first free game. The client is completely dumb to the game - it just displays what it's told to display.

I argued at the time that only a simple bet request should be sent, not the coin size and total bet....plus your "etc." implied that there is indeed more.

From my experience (from when I took a few k from a big win at another casino and did some big deposits and bets at them), the response is fast and no money in or out before proper explanations are provided from the player.

I have a question, but I am afraid I know the answer.....

- Compared to 2 years ago, are we closer or further away from one regulatory authority and a player friendly environment across all EU?

So you implied from what I said that the client was sending back loads of dodgy information rather than just sending the things it needs to, and that my etc. was just me merely stating that i don't know the full list? Some of it will probably be security protocol information to stop people sending fake spin requests, some of it might be information on other aspects of the game (I.e if you can choose to have a feature bet active or not)

The etc... was not meant in any way to hide anything...

Please no drama. I never implied dodgy information is sent.

You in the UK should know best that you can ask any company, who is handing over your personal data or just a part of it to a third party, for the exact details and they have to disclose it.

Why is it so difficult to understand that I (and many others) want to know what is sent in those data packets?

What I would like to know specifically is if your balance figure is sent to the provider.

By design, the spin requests would need to be universal and therefore common knowledge surely - agree with Harry I am puzzled by the lack of clarity/roundabout responses. Trancemonkey could you provide an exact breakdown of the info from your latest IGT game you produced as an example - I am sure you will have complete clarity for that.

One would expect there's a common server 'section' between player/casino and the games themselves.

So maybe all TM's games are concerned about, is receiving a spin request and sending back a result to this part of the server.

A game doesn't store any data about you, although the casinos might do. So data protection doesn't require us to tell you what's in those packets. If there was personal identifiable information in there then it probably would...

Why would spin requests be universal? Not every game is the same... Some games have selectable lines, some don't. Some allow you to change the coin & bet size (NetEnt), some don't. Some games have interactive features, some don't. Etc.

Also, i don't work in the online side of IGT so i can't comment on IGT online games, but at previous companies i work at we only sent information required in order to tell the server the information it needed to determine the outcome - on the last online game i did I'm sure that was only bet size and whether the "extra bet" was selected or not. It was a forced line game so number of lines was irrelevant to the spin request.

Anyway - let's not hijack this thread in to a "spin request" thread - i suggest people start a different thread for that...

Who's idea was it to make someone Managing director of their business for a day?
Obviously congrats on winning the comp but it's a very odd prize.
Really can't understand this one.

I have no problem showing termur details that get sent from my account to the providers. It does differ from provider to provider so there isn't a hard and fast rule. Will try to answer Harrys other questions and the other 3 q's in this thread.

I have to say that I am stunned that there is so little interest in asking questions - there is a world of misinformation given out on this forum from members guessing about any number of things and then when you have the chance to actually find out the truth there seems very little interest. Not one person had even mentioned Source of Wealth and yet you are up in arms about it in other threads!!

And before you all start shouting about SoW I have already arranged fir this subject to be covered....

I've renamed the thread hoping it will draw more people in to ask questions about casino operations.

How many people does a casino need to employ ? If the servers are game provider based then how much infrastructure is needed to run the main front end ?

Could someone just start up with some Amazon cloud , a couple of laptops and some money for licensing and marketing ?

Roughly how much portion of revenue has to go on compliance and customer service ?

On the videoslots thread earlier the rep said they would increase the max number of players on free roll from 1500 to 2000, so as a wild guess that maybe max 5 % of customers play in any tournament, would it be correct to assume that a large casino brand could have around 50000 accounts registered ?

Also roughly what percent of gross revenue ends up as group take home profit at the year end ?

Who decides the comps and bonuses for players ?

Do you have “loss leaders” like in supermarkets? So you can lose out short term but hope for longer term gains ?

Can casino brands negotiate with slot providers for better percentage cuts on turnover ? Do you have spies that know what your competitors deals are ?

Ok there’s a few questions to start.....

Q. What factors go into deciding when to stop offering certain individuals bonuses (deposit based rather than gratis)

I would place a very educated guess it is nothing to do with bonus to deposit ratio and rather based on lifetime profit/loss as I seem to be BB'ed pretty much everywhere.

More than happy to be told otherwise please????

Q. Despite the UK tax on bonuses and (OTT IMO) explosion in RG regulations, regardless of the question above, why are we seeing virtually no offers these days as opposed to 12-18 months ago when I had multiple options of where to "throw" that days deposit?

Q. Regarding SoW, low rollers who deposit £25 here and there (and that pattern has never changed) how likely in the future are they to be asked for SoW? (IE: Me lol!)

Many thanks

Jon

I didn't see any point asking about any compliance issues as reps pretty much refuse to talk about them . Is this different now as I will ask some if you like . As for misinformation being given out on the forum, surely if you see that you would join in the discussion?

What is the one deciding factor that signals to you, as a casino operator, a problem gambler? What is the red line?

There have been issues with some regular posters on this forum with other casinos where they have been labelled problem gamblers by the casino and have found their accounts locked. Or received an email that they might have a problem. And for reasons that do not warrant them doing so.

How do you decide? Is it the manager’s job? Customer service? What do you look at?
How do you distinguish A regular gambler and a problem gambler?

And as an extra, is the process automated, if so, how much, completely or flagged to a senior member of staff to look at?

How much do you need to wager to level up and get a spin on the wheel?
What must your average size bet be to receive megaspins on the wheel instead of 5 freespins (we know it changes if you bet more) ?

For Rizk races do you play through them before they go live, as for example your Push Gaming week this week, alot of them you can't even complete the 400 spins before the time run out (they dont have a quickspin function either), same goes for Big Bad Wolf as if you get a few bonus rounds you run out of time, even if you are quickspinning.

How does your loyalty team work? I was quoted I had received my 10% bonus, when I was on a bad run (lost nearly 2k in 4 days), but they for some reason said my racewinnings and wheel spins were included in these 10%. So not really Loyalty.
Would be interesting to know if you have different kinds of "tiers" in your loyalty profiles.

How much of the cake does a casino provider take from a losing player? Do you have to pay the provider if the player wins too?

Whats the highest level someone has reached so far on Rizk levels?

1 Do the bet size matter for level up?

2 If the bet size matter for level up faster with higher rate of % how much does it change with higher bets?
Lets say im betting 0.2£ for one level up.
Then for the next level up im betting 2£ does that make any difference?

3 This Jackpot in "Wheel of Rizk" What are the odds/chance for winning that? And how much is the Jackpot prize? Couldn't find info about it

Apologize if some of my questions already been asked, just did a quick read through and hope i didn't miss to read that.

Hi all.

I'm back from Malta and I must say the trip was a eye opener! Too tired to go into details tonight, but I'll post later in the week with some pictures (if they are post worthy, I surely lack the photographic skills of Tirilej).

I'd like to give a big shout out to Captain & Rizk. Absolutely wonderful trip and all the people I met were truly nice and openly discussed the in and outs of the business.

A big thank you Rizk

Really can't understand this one.

As a long time player and someone interested in the business, I couldn't have asked for a better prize. I can't imagine any other way for a ordinary player to get invited to meet the head of casino and being shown information which is not publicly available.

The prize was very creative and really a once in a lifetime chance.

I had the pleasure to join @nikantw a couple of years ago for his tour, and it was an excellent informative trip. I had a marvelous time, and even I learned a lot. :D. I am totally stoked that you got to go and hopefully had the same experience. Rizk and co. are an amazing company.

Hey guys, I went through a large number of the questions above with Ternur on Friday but i will update this thread with all the answers over the next few days.

It was a pleasure to meet you ternur, many thanks for your company and your choice of food on Friday night!
And hats off to you guys for putting together this stunning trip. I am really looking forward to the answers to the member's questions. Thanks a ton!!

Hi Nikantw, i think you know the answer to this one as you say!! In terms of one regulatory authority i personally dont believe that you will ever see this happening. More and more countries are going down a regulatory route, Sweden will be the next country to do so in 2019 and this will again have different regulations to, for example, the MGA regulations.

In terms of a more player friendly environment, I think that the UK are leading the way here and whilst it isnt necessarily always easy to find the right way to comply with their regulations - particularly within short timeframes - there many things that they are enforcing, and enforcing hard, that are to the benefit of the players.

Everyone wants a piece of the pie - and everyone wants to rule the world.

Hi Spikie,

The number of people a casino needs to employ differs on many factors but i would say that for any new and serious operator they should need around 20 staff to build their front end, set up and run the casino, payments, customer services, CRM, graphics and design, VIP and marketing. Obviously when a casino is just launching some of these roles can be done by the same person but if a casino grows quickly then they will be overrun with work very quickly too.

The infrastructure needed for the front end is again dependent on the scale of the Front End itself and how ambitious it is, Rizk have a clustered server set up that maintains everything that we need to run our game layer and manage the Rizk Database that incorporates data that is not kept within the platform database (in our case things like Wheel of Rizk results, items claimed etc etc). The platform will handle the more standard data such as log in details, deposits, game play etc.

Yes, theoretically someone could just set up with some Amazon cloud, bit of hardware and some money for licencing and marketing, however the likelihood is that they would fail very quickly. One of the most important and difficult areas of setting up a casino is customer acquisition and this is a hugely expensive, skilled and time consuming task to do it right and then to have a solid, secure and 100% available infrastructure alongside a detailed marketing retention plan if they wish to keep these players that they have acquired.

Percentage of revenues for compliance and customer service is irrelevant. You spend whatever you need to spend on compliance - that is just a given. Customer service you spend whatever you need to spend to ensure that you can service the needs of the customer in a quick enough time. If you try to save money in these areas then it is will far outweigh the money that you will lose in the long run from dissatisfied customers or regulators.

In terms of accounts registered this again depends upon how much money they spend on marketing and how long they have been in operation, however this will vary from 10's of thousands to multiple millions of registered accounts at a bigger more established casino. Note that I am referring to registered accounts only a percentage of these players will ever become active.

In terms of % profit amount this again varies hugely, there are a lot of operators out there that dont make a profit because they reinvest to attract players to allow them to grow. This investment never stops and can only grow - the vast majority or operators operate in low single figure percentages of profitability - if they are even profitable.

Comps and bonuses will generally be decided by the Head of Casino who will have a target for the amount of Net Gaming Revenue on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis. Think of it in terms of a supermarket that decides how much money can be given out in loyalty offers, whilst still maintaining a a level of revenue required to cover all the other areas of the business.

Yes we have loss leaders all the time - every (reasonable) welcome bonus is a loss leader for example.

Yes all casino brands negotiate with their providers to get better rates based on volume - the same as with any business. We dont have spies as such but because so much is dictated by volume we know when we are happy/unhappy!!

Think i caught all the questions there - let me know if i missed anything
