Unibet Got a Slap on the Wrist Due to Serious AML Failures

No failure to comply with AML procedures ever goes unpunished, and Platinum Gaming (the company behind Unibet) is there to confirm it.
The UKGC has fined them £10 million after being found not to have been handling AML controls and safe gambling procedures seriously enough.
Here’s the backstory.
Somewhere between January 2023 and May 2024, Platinum Gaming completely failed to recognize that several of their high-spending players had been at a serious risk from gambling harm. One of them lost more than £16,000 within just three months, and the other went above their £2,500 loss limit just several minutes after creating their account.
And as if all that wasn’t enough, Platinum Gaming let some of the players whose accounts were previously closed due to raising significant money laundering flags return and gamble all over again.
So now, on top of having to dish out a serious amount of money, Platinum Gaming will also have to go through an outside audit and an internal check-up.
Let’s sit tight and see how all that unravels.
