Question How to Protect Winnings from Being Gambled Away

Hi everyone,

I recently won €2,600 at PowerUp Casino. Their withdrawal policy is a bit tricky — they only allow €500 per day, and I already have two withdrawals pending. You can only request one new withdrawal per day, so most of my balance is still sitting in the account.

My main concern is: I don’t want to risk gambling away the money that’s still in my balance. I asked support if they could put a bet block on my account (so I can’t play until the withdrawals are processed), but they told me that’s not an available option.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? What can I do to make sure I don’t end up playing away the money that’s waiting to be withdrawn?

  • Should I request a cool-off/self-exclusion (and if so, will that affect my pending withdrawals)?
  • Or is there another solution I might be missing?

Any advice would be much appreciated. I just want to make sure I can safely collect my winnings.

Thanks in advance!

Use self-discipline.

Of course the bet block won't be an option, it would stop you spunking the money back. Which they want you to do.

That's why they have lamentable 500 euro daily limits and will only have 2 in process at any given time. Just reading those two terms tells me it's a very dodgy casino you're playing at.

By even asking for a bet block you've now told them you are likely to lose a battle of wills regarding the balance and spend it back. So it wouldn't surprise me if the withdrawals went even slower.

Cool off would be better than self exclusion.

If you self exclude then you would likely create some issues with the withdrawal.

My other advice to you is that if this company is preventing you putting a block on your account for the time being then they are disingenuous and are preying that you play the money back through the casino. I would be looking for a new place to play straight after I get that money.

I kinda did something like this a few years ago, before it was banned in the UK, to cancel withdrawals, I won around £1000. I already had a pending withdrawal and was not allowed to do another one and this was at a casino that the piss to proccess them 2-3 days pending so I went in live chat and asked if I could have my account closed for 2 days I didnt tell them why I didnt go in to it about feeling the "urge" to spend it I just said I want a break. To make a long story short, they wouldn't let me reopen my account.

Did you get the money though?

Hopefully you take this as a sign to play elsewhere in future. Those are atrocious terms.

If I was in your situation I'd set a bet limit of $1 a day so you can't spunk it back until you're paid out. If that's not possible, set 24 hour cool off periods. Once you receive your money play somewhere else like one of the many great accredited casinos here.

Did you get the money though?
Yeah I got both of my money when i requested it but they didnt allow me to reopen it due to "concerns" :D

€500 per day? Thought it was a joke.

Seriously though, I would recommend cashing out your winnings and then leaving this place. On top of that, they only allow a maximum of 3 pending cashouts, which forces you to log in again and request the next ones. Stay disciplined, and good luck!

They don't offer cool down periods?
Probably not, those sort of tools which favour the player only tend to get provided by casinos operating under proper licensing which incorporate extensive RG measures.

Most Curaçao casinos have this ridiculous limit. These casinos are completely tailored for gambling addicts who are already banned from gambling in their own countries. They know that 90% of the players there are addicts with zero self-control, unable to leave the money until everything is paid out.

The funny part is that they claim this limit is for the customer’s safety. Haha… but when it comes to deposits? Then safety doesn’t seem to matter — you’re allowed to deposit 10k per transaction in a single day.

Reminds me of the days when UK Casinos were allowed to offer the reverse withdrawal 'facility', that over the years cost me a lot of £'s.

As Dunover says, self discipline and I know it can be very tempting to play back your pending withdrawal, rather than wait for the withdrawal process to play out, but you will be happy once you finally receive the money in your bank.

As for the Curaçao casinos and other offshore casinos having relatively low withdrawal limits, even some of the 'good' ones which are listed here on Casinomeister. I think it may in part be to do with the fact many take US customers. As we know payments to and payment processors serving US customers is, well, an interesting topic, one probably for another thread :-)

2600 EUR!? That's 4,253.32 CAD in my currency! You can extinguish many flames with that!

Take a break and preoccupy yourself from playing it away. A road trip, camping, etc.

Cooling off is so much better than self exclusion to be honest.

Hope you get your winnings! Congrats @Svitex!

Give your computer to someone..or...there is cheap gamble block software available...where you can set a time limit...1..week...1 month...etc...

Live in the UK! One of the things the UKGC got right (among many wrong things) is to not allow withdrawals to be reversed.
Even a stopped clock is right twice a day, etc.
Yes, 100% agree with you there. The Reverse Withdrawal 'facility' was and is responsible for a sizeable chunk of online casino profits.
