Review of the new MG games (November) - Mega Moolah!

Yes, "Mega Moolah" was actually released this month after being delayed for 2 months and is definately
the star of this release. But MG also relased 3 other slots where 'only' one of them actually is a clone.
Besides the 5-reel slots "All Aces" VP was also relased as 50-play and 5 multi-hand version of popular BJ games was also relased. I will not review the BJ games - Someone else (a BJ lover) can have that honour.

Mega Moolah:
Medium/High Variance slot
25 lines
The intro to the slot is pretty but not very exciting. So my favorite MG intro is stil 'Loaded'. Most people just click past the intro anyway.

The symbol-graphics are excellent. The animals have the 'cartoonish' look that I like. Last month I criticized
the 'Flying Circus' slot for trying to look too realistic which just does not fit into my slot world. But I am
very sad that MG have once again included the 9TJQKA symbols they believe must be a part of every theme. The sound does go well with the slot. Not too noisy with some 'savannah'-wildlife samples and a pleasant spinning sound. The same spinning sound has been used in other slots before though.

The slot is a standard freespin/multiplier slot that most slot players prefer, but this time a 4-tier
rapid fire jackpot has been added.

3 scatters triggers 15 freespins with *3 multiplier during the freespins and the feature can be retriggered.
This is good news. It is very used standard feature, but it is still a very good one.

The wild symbol substitues for all symbol except scatters and multiplies win *2. 5 wild pays 15000.
More good news. Wild symbols that does not multiply wins are too old-style and not as funny. And I am
very pleased 5 wild also has a high pay. It was a disgrace that 5 wilds in "Dolphin Tale" only paid 3000 coins compared to how hard it is to hit and I generally find anything below 10000 coins an insult. Increasing the pay for 5 wild has very very little impact on the slots payout%.

So what is all this 4-tier jackpot about?
Pretty simple. It is a multi-tiered rapid fire jackpot as known from Intercasino's Marvels slots.
The 4 jackpots starts at:
Tier 1:10$
Tier 2:100$
Tier 3:10.000$
Tier 4:1M$

So how do you win one of the jackpots?
Pretty simple also. Every spin gives a chance to win one of the jackpots so you do not have to do anything except the play as usual. It is just an added feature. The help page says:
"The higher you bet the higher you chances of winning the progressive jackpot".
I am certain the precise chance for winning is proportional to the bet size. This way payout% for the slot is the same no matter what bet-size you play. Intercasino and almost all other rapid fire jackpots I have know of work this way and it is the right and fair way to do it. It is interesting that RTG claim their jackpots does not depend on bet size, but I simply do not believe it from some simple mathematic arguments. But basically you should be very happy about how the trigger for the "Mega Moolah" jackpots works. But low rollers and high rollers have the same payout% though highrollers of course will win the jackpot more often. But you can win the 1M jackpot as a low-roller!

"Mega Moolah" does live up to my expectations and they have been high, especially after the two months extended waiting period where they released some extremely boring slots to make matters worse. "Mega Moolah" is targetted at the masses and MG hit right on. There is no new specialized mechanics as in "Mad Hatters" etc. - but that is fine with me. They do not want "Mega Moolah" to be too complicated for the casual slot player. I just hope future more specialized slot released will have new mechanics.

I do not need to say "Mega Moolah" made it to my favorite slot list. But it is sad that it actually makes some of the good old school slots obsolete. It has the same (freespin+multiplier) and then some (4-tiered jackpot). But for sentimental reasons I will still visit "Thunderstruck" once in a while, it was pretty revolutionary when it was released.

Glory of Rome:
20 line
Medium Variance

The intro is mostly static picture of things people connect with The Roman empire. A little disappoiting.

The graphics are not state of the art. Not as good as "Mega Moolah" but better than "Flying Circus" (try compare the 3 lion symbols). The 20 lines follow the new slot style of MG, which probably confuse some. But it is fundamentally not important except that you are used to something else. The Empress could have been better. I believe they tried to make her a bit sexy. But her wierd open mouth just makes her look retarted. But maybe you will like her.

Once again this slot has the 9TJQKA symbols, but at least they had a little humor writing 9 as "IX" and 10 as "X", so for once they are forgiven for this. They did make the symbols fit the theme.

This slot is bascially a standard freespin/multiplier with a twist. When you hit the feature you are awared
8 free spins AND 4 picks. Each pick are eigther:
1. 8 additional freespin (rare)
2. 10*bet size price (common)
Since you always will get a few (most often 3) of #2 this means the feature will always give a decent pay.
Nothing is more frustating than finally hitting the feature and then hitting nothing within the feature. Here you are garantied a 'decent win'.

During the freespins wins are multiplied *2 and they can NOT be retriggered.
Also wild does not multiply winnings.

It is not a bad slot but there is nothing really new here. "Glory of Rome" is still better than the slots
released the last 2 months. Actually this is one of the few picking features I like, which is rare.

Summertime:
9 line
Medium/High variance

AARRGGG!
This is another "Thunderstruck" clone as if we did not have enough of these allready.
The only good thing I can say about it is that it does not have the 9TJQKA symbols.
It reminds me nothing of 'Summertime' it has some 20-year old looking fruit/bar/diamond/bell graphics I would expect to see a Las Vegas retro-slot museum. It is a much worse clone that "Thunderstruck" and "Spring Break" etc. because the theme sucks and basically is non-existant. 4 MG harddisk wasted for each MG casino you have installed. I vote this the worst release this year.

Twin Samurai:
20 lines
Low/Medium variance

This is a new slot with new mechanics. The intro movie and graphics does fit the theme well. But yet
again the 9TJQKA symbols are here, which could have been used to complete the theme instead.

Feature:
The feature mode is triggered when 3 scatters appear LEFT TO RIGHT and not just anywhere.
This awards 10 free spins at *2 multiplier which can be retriggered.

New mechanic:
There are only wild on reel #2 and reel #4, but they will expand to fill all 3 symbols on that reel. They do
not multiply winnings.

First of all I do not like scatters that must be 'left to right', because this normally means they often
appear on the reels and gets in the way for other winnings. This is also the case here. Also I miss
the normal wild symbol that appears on all reels. They could still have put the wild symbols on the other reels but only let it expand on reel #2 and #4.

I am sorry that I have to say this slot is not that good when MG finally adds some new mechanics to a slot, which I have been looking forward to since "Mad Hatters". It is not that it is a boring slot, it does not just catch my interest. I will return to play this slot occasionally, but that is it. I am sure some people will like this slot though. I estimate it to be low/medium variance slot, which means you will not go broke as fast as you can on other slots, but you can also not win as much if you are lucky.

All Aces 50-play VP:
This is also a highly awaited release for me personally since VP are my favorite casino games.
Unfortunately the minimum bet on 50-play "All Aces" is 25$, which is too much for my bankroll.
I hope some casino managers will change this for their casinos. (This is one of the few things
the MG casino managers can configure for the games). So I will just keep playing "All Aces" as 10-play with
a total bet of 5$.

What is so special about "All Aces" is that the payout% is 99.92% which is almost revolutionary high
after JoB has been the lowest house egde MG VP for years with payout 99.54%. But to reach the 99.92% you have to adjust to the paytable. I made a simulation showing that playing optimal JoB strategy on "All Aces" only gave a payout% of 98.9%. I was actually surprised it was that low. But this is one of the challenges I like about VP, you have to learn the strategy. And for very good reason MG does not give autoplay on "All Aces" VP. I play VP because playing slots without a bonus will drain your money very fast. Because of the low house egde on "All Aces" I feel I am getting enough entertainment for my $ though the casino eventually will win. But be aware that "All Aces" is a very streaky VP games compared to JoB. If you been decimated at "Loose Dueces" you know what I am talking about.

My favorite MG slots
#1 Isis
#2 Mega Moolah
#3 Avalon
#4 Loaded
#5 Thunderstruck
#6 Mad Hatters
#7 Moonshine
#8 Harvey's

Just a note - when I hit the feature, three of the four shields gave me free spins. Having said that, the total result was only 38x bet.

WEll... someday I might get to play these new games. Been connected and downloading at Villento for almost an hour and only Glory of Rome has completed d/l and MegaMoolah is at 20%.

And no, I'm not on dialup, I've got freakin' 1.5 Mbp DSL and it still takes forever to d/l new games.

I also noticed that Age of Discovery and a few more existing slots were also re-downloading -- perhaps just a repair or freshen up? ;)

When something like this happens, you may want to disconnect and then reconnect and try it again. There may be too many poker chips in the "tubes" and they might be snagging things up.

 .... tried again later. It was only marginally faster. It was also 'prime time' (between 6 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.) here in the states.... You're probably correct, the internet tubes between their server and my computer was probably a wee bit clogged with poker chips and I didn't have any lotto balls or horse racing bets to clear the clog.

I'm liking the look of all the slots so far...done pretty well at 32Red with features all over the shop.

My only complaint is on the mega Moolah Jackpot round. I landed on a yellow triangle and assumed I'd hit the 3rd Jackpot for $12k, but it only gave me $10 ??? Whats that all about?!?!?!

Well done MG on creating the LAZIEST SLOT ON EARTH!!!

Summertime... Not only have you ripped off the functionality of the tried and tested Ladies Nite/Thunderstruck etc - but you've even ripped the symbols off a years old slot as well!!!! Lazy lazy lazy... So lazy in fact, I'm impressed!

Also how in hell did they come up with the name "Summertime"? There is nothing about summer at all. What the f... does a diamond, bell and bar has to do with summer? This is the top pay symbols.

Try compare to the clone "Spring Break" - here the symbols match the name. Beer, girls and junk food. Now - that is an excellent theme.

Whenever I play Spring Break, I think of Mission Beach (SD), and I get hungry for Mexican food. :D I think it's the colors that does this to me (yelllow and reds)

I believe that Summertime was the result of too many bong hits in the MGS labs - good slot, but a bit out of character.

Simmo!?!?!
Got a screenshot???

No - unfortunately straight after the "pointer" lands, the award screen comes up and conveniently hides the wheel! I was able to pinpoint the exact time though so I've reported it.

I had a good session on this. It's okay actually and if nothing else gives a 4th alternative to my favourite slot model when the others run dry.

Also - HOW MANY SPINS to hit that damn wheel!!?? Jeeeeeez... About two hundred last night, and another three hundred this morning, all at 5p and still nowt!

"Another player has just won the jackpot"

Thanks for that. Heh hee

Probably me :) Hit the mini for $31 this morning. This time it showed the right colour too! Best played when the USA is asleep ;)

Still no wheel in over 800 spins - but a good seven or eight sets of free spins to make up for it I suppose!.. The colour thing is similar to Wheel of Wealth I think, i.e - the graphics don't always keep up as they should!.. From what I can remember when I first hit the wheel all those many many many spins ago!!!! Heh hee

This is from the description of Glory of Rome: "In the base game you can win up to 25 000.00."

What is the "base game"?

My guess is that it is the default bet amount when you first start up the game?

It means during "normal" play. IE without help from the free spins/bonus feature. 5 Wilds at Max bet I assume without checking the paytable. In actual fact it would be more than 25k coins as they always forget 5 wilds normally means you get other line-ups too :D

Minor jackpot mistake

I played this game today at 32Red and hit the Minor jackpot.
The value of that jackpot was above 200( I don't remember the exact figure) and I only received 141.
Can somebody explain this?
Is it a mistake and do I have to complain?
I was playing only .5 euro (25 lines, 2 coins of .01), so still a good return, but why did I not get the value which was on the screen?

I've started to see this too. Its definately buggy. definately report it if only to make them aware there is a problem. All bugs on any game should be reported no matter how small. I have noticed that the amount is often different but does tend to be up as much as down so swings and roundabouts.

Lots of little bugs coming out now. Doesn't take a genius to suss that this bonus wheel was probably the reason the slot was delayed for 2 months, good slot though it is :)

It occurs to me that the bonus is represented in USD... today's USD-EUR rate is about 1 - .75 according to Oanda.com - that should put you close, but probably the exchange rate being used in the jackpots is worse.

^

Well I have not hit it 3+ times but I have hit it twice(both minor) this is over between 1800/2200 spins at 5p*9 lines (45p stake)
It would be nice to know the average stake or spins to hit it.

Zoozie can:thumbsup:

Anyone here that has hit the jackpot 3+ times?

In that case how times have you hit it and how many spins total and average bet size?

Zoozie

I've hit it about 6 or 7 times now playing at $5/$6.25 a spin. Twice got the Orange one, the rest (arguably!) the red one. Probably getting it every 400 spins on average I'd guess so far.

SPear: I play in $ and it still comes up wrong sometimes.

Bugs

That's not the only bug. After the lower jackpots are hit they reset to below the starting levels of 10 and 100.

Microgaming progressives (I thought) are paid in the currency of the player's account, since their bets are in the currency of their account.
The only reason this might be different is that it is the first progressive without a fixed bet needed to qualify for one. It will take as little as 9c per line, but the rules state the chance of seeing the bonus wheel is related to the stake of play. It reminds me of the Golden Goose slots, where the Goose is triggered by some element outside of the gameplay rather than a result of a line-up on the reels as in the traditional slot bonus round.

I just copied my reply from a different thread about this game but since this is a review thread I will post it here as well.

well after 4000 spins, i have to say it is an interesting slot and one that some people may enjoy if they care to take the time to play it. I myself found the reels to move a bit slow for my taste even on QuickSpin but in total I broke even. I hit the mini twice and the minor once but anyone looking for a huge payday will have to take some time to get it I think.

4000 spins
50 cents a spin
Two coins per line
largest single spin hit $24.00
largest free spin hit 4X retrigger $38.00
2 mini progressive jackpots
1 minor progressive jackpot

I got the first mini within the first 100 spins, the second one after around 2700 spins and I hit the minor one at the end of my 4000 spins. I was hitting free spins right and left but only after I was down some money and it just brought me back close to even.

I did go back and spin it a few times at $1.25 a spin and hit the free spins four times within 120 spins. One for 10 dollars, made me sad that I had upped my bet and got less than before, second one was 17 then three spins later I hit the free spins for another $93.00 and about 40 spins later I hit the free spins for $47.00 then I quit. It eats pretty quick at $1.25 so the free spins saved me.

Here's my take on the new games:

Mega Moolah
The 2 free spin rounds I got seemed to pay decent at $180 and $160 each, but that works out to 29x and 26x my $6.25 bet size, which is not the worst I've seen but is not exactly stunning. I don't like the jackpots and think the game would be better without them. And when the thing flashes every 2 seconds saying that someone won the jackpot, it does not say which jackpot they won, but it appears to me that it is supposed to (there is an extra space between "the" and "jackpot", leading me to believe that the type of jackpot that was won should be in between the spaces, but that the variable which is supposed to contain the name of the jackpot is empty or null).

Regarding the bug where the display of the jackpot values is below the stated minimum, that's just a cosmetic problem. The two times I hit the Mini jackpot were for $10.01 and $10.05, which I think means that the end result is correct, even if it doesn't appear to be. You can't take constantly-updating jackpot amounts at face value because it is impossible to display an accurate amount on every player's screen at the exact time at which the amount is accurate - but that doesn't excuse the apparent missing dollar from each jackpot.

Glory of Rome
Not bad. I like this one. As with most new MG games in their debut month, I hit the feature within the first 5 spins. I like that you automatically have 8 free spins, and that you're either going to get more spins or a decent amount from your four picks. From a $1 bet I got $40 right off the bat plus my 8 spins, plus whatever I got for having gotten the 3 scatters to trigger it. The second time I hit the feature I picked the Free Spins on 3 out of my 4 picks, which gave me 32 free spins altogether plus $10 from the other pick. I agree with Zoozie that having Roman numerals for 9 and 10 is a nice break from the standard. This one is my favorite of the four new slots released this month.

Summertime
The sequel to Spring Break, and bastard child of SunQuest. It does have one good thing about it: SunQuest never pays, so when I was playing this one I was expecting a 0% payback, but was pleasantly surprised to win $50 from a $2.25 bet for getting 4 bells (one was a kicker). I didn't get the free spins, but I didn't play for very long. Seeing all those SunQuest symbols was confusing.

Twin Samurai
I did not get such a good vibe from this game. It's not the theme I didn't like, it's that after a couple hundred spins, I never hit the feature. I got 2 scatters on reels 1&2, 1&3, and 2&3 plenty of times but could not get them on all 3 reels. And I only got a wild symbol 4 times out of all those spins - and of those 4, only twice did it help complete winning combinations. I finally realized that I am chasing a cheap 10 free spins at an even cheaper 2x multiplier - hardly worth the trouble. So I did not like this one, although I will probably be back for more at some point because it's still new.

Honorable Mention: 50-Hand All Aces
I agree that the $25 minimum bet is a bit steep but it's better than Lucky Nugget's $50 minimum bet for the 10-Hand All Aces version. Anyway I thought I would mention it because within about 10 hands I hit four 9s, then shortly afterward 4 Aces, and on the next hand, 4 threes. Went from a $70 bankroll to $360. I quickly left and blew it all on Mega Moolah. :D

I also like the Multi-Hand Vegas Downtown Gold because it has only 2 decks which can probably work in the player's favor under certain situations, although I really have no idea. I had pretty decent luck at it. The dealer kept busting. I like when that happens. :D
